Are you the only one in the active miners list on localhost: Make sure that you're connected to the right bitcoind with --bitcoind-rpc-port! Miners connect to "Nodes" and all of the P2Pool "Nodes" connect to each other, forming one big pool.

Please give it a shot http: If the computer you're enabling the RPC interface on is behind a router using NAT it probably is unless you know otherwise , then exposing your port does not make it accessible to the outside internet unless you map it to a port on your router.
The one thing to be careful about is to ensure you build dogecoind without UPnP otherwise it will auto map the port through your router.
You should never expose your RPC port to the external internet, simply because it's unnecessary, if you're setting up a node you want other people to be able to use, just map the worker port if you follow that guide and your RPC will be safe. There's always a risk, I don't think it's very big though, as long as you limit the RPC connections to local IP s , i. I'd setup your firewall settings to only allow RPC port access from localhost.
I also wouldn't store any coins on your node. Instead use the --address option to have fees payout to a more secure wallet. It depends on your connection. You can set both to 1 and adjust upwards from there until you get what you want. Expiry should probably be higher than Scantime I have it at 2x Scan.
