Today we're releasing a new gadget that allows your readers to directly contribute to your blog. The gadget can be added to any part of your page, but we've formatted it From that perspective dogecoin is at best an inconsequential annoyance to bitcoin, at worst it is going to leave a lot of newbies holding the bag and being turned off to the whole crytocurrency idea.
That's a possibility, but we're going to get newbies no matter what. In recent weeks we've had a bunch of Dogecoiners post here saying that they're making the leap from Dogecoin to Bitcoin.
It does have its pros and cons, of course, but I don't see why Bitcoin and Dogecoin can't just live peacefully side by side: That is where the zero sum part comes in. Users have a finite amount of time and money. Time and money spent on dogecoin is time and money not being spent on bitcoin.
No, I'm not jealous of their much promoted "community", but it does make me a little sad to see the energy wasted. Scampering, I think, would be the best way to describe what they're doing.
So it isn't an issue of hostility, it is pity at seeing a misallocation of resources. But that is the trade off in a free market, small amounts of waste here and there - the occasional peasant greasing the machine's gears with his guts. Well, since dogecoin was created to mock bitcoin specifically and the entire idea of cryptocurrency in general, perhaps you should tell us why we should get along? Just because dogecoin started to get some value and got attention doesn't mean we should forget about the original intent.
Ya it was a joke when it started. Currently it's a great light hearted community that is bringing a lot of new users into crypto. I don't really see why we should be offended by a silly doge meme that pokes fun at our to the moon posts. I've never really understood this argument.
If Satoshi appeared and said "I started BitCoin as a joke, actually DogeCoin has a great community and they are extremely active in trying to increase their economic reach, help people, and be friendly Very subtle way to be condescending, just like that analysis of yours. I don't know why any Bitcoiner would dislike Dogecoin; their community seems determined as a whole to find some legitimate use for cryptocurrencies, while having fun.
Meanwhile the Bitcoin community invents more bullshit that won't work cough Circle , illegal craphola Darkcoin and car washers are supposed to supply colored coins or some shit. The meaningful figure would be 1 median USD amount tipped 2 per user 3 per fixed period of time. Even better than the median would be breakdown by percentiles histogram , because I'm almost sure distribution is not normal and will be pretty skewed.
Well changetip came just after dogetipbot if I recall correctly, and it's only 21 tips shy of dogetipbot. That seems to suggest the rates are at least similar.
No, he is correct. This is not ALL of the data, just as much as Reddit would let me see, which is 40 pages. The bitcoin tip for 2 biscuits 0. For bitcointip much more data was available. Should be noted that the last tips for BTC goes back about 2 months and the last tips for Doge goes back about 1 hour. So Doge has about tips for every BTC tip.
GreenAddress and Bitcointip are there just to have more data, their timeframes are all messed up. I would suggest adding values adjusted for the ratio.
It doesn't really compare properly right now. I have no idea what the distribution is. You didn't even check into the tips without verify written on them A large amount of those tips go through Actually, only the last tips with verify written into them are available for doge. The large majority of tips through dogetipbot don't have verify written into them because it bogs down the bot So you're saying this is just tips which are confirmed by the tipbot? Because at least in the case of dogetipbot, that would be an incomplete dataset.
I have received far more Doge tips then Bitcoin actually no Bitcoin tips. They may be small but they are frequent. So while this gives an idea of average tip size, it doesn't give any indication as to the total value of tips per unit of time, which I would argue is the fairest measurement of "how much" is tipped by each coin.
For just a very rough estimate, 10 pages of the dogetipbots recent history takes you about 4 hours back, while 2 pages of changetip ignoring bitcointip since it's been out of commission for a month now also takes you 4 hours back, so based on this admittedly too small sample size, I get an estimate of 5: That gives a rough estimate of the total value tipped during that time span being a little over 2: Take these numbers with a big grain of salt, because 4 hours is a tiny sample size, but it's at least a rough estimate of the number that I think more meaningfully represents "who tips more".
I'm hesitant to post this because I don't want to further reinforce competitiveness between Doge and Bitcoin. A friendly reminder that the ocean is huge, and we are working together to drive the adoption of digital currencies. ChangeTip is building a dashboard for publicly available data so everything is transparent.
It's hard to find time though, we are also working on features for tipping and new channels! Here's some data in the meantime for the curious. This is only for tips that were collected , so not all the tips that were sent. Since then there has been a lot more doge-style giveaways where people have threads that give away tiny amounts.
That's been good for usage overall. Whether Doge remains on that scene remains an unanswerable question for the next 6 months, despite what a lot of the more vocal people say. I think that some people in the Bitcoin community need to look to Dogecoin for a bit to see how a welcoming and supportive community isn't a weakness but a strength. No clue what I got left in here. How is that possible and how do we change it?
If you follow any of the above links, respect the rules of reddit and don't vote or comment. Unsure about changetip, but, I got an on-chain donation with bitcoin tip of.
These numbers do not mean much, because of the unequal time frame. The tips with DogeTipBot may have happened today, while it could have taken a week for those of BitcoinTip or ChangeTip to accumulate.
