Game pretty new to dogecoin of this. Mining, I have some ideas on how to solve at least game of them: Also, you can handwrite asm. That is so dogecoin when people say that. CPUMiner is written in Assembly if I remember correctly and has had a ton of time put into optimizing it for different architectures mining instruction sets.

After that, hopefully I'll get a chance to reply to some more messages! Hopefully it's a bit more stable now!

This has definitely been a learning experience for me, so thanks to everyone who's put up with my mistakes so far. Please refresh the site a couple times so you get the slight code modifications too.

Be back on in a bit to go through the comments. Another day, another edit. Probably going to be one of the last on this message though. Someone was kind enough to PM me with a Scrypt implementation that was already optimized in at least one of the ways I had planned. So, I switched to theirs.

Everyone should get around double the hash rate now! In order to celebrate, and to reward those who kept at it, I'm doubling everyone's balances, including any amounts already withdrawn. I finally released the source. There's a thread for all of that kinda stuff here. I think you should make it clear on the site that it's using your CPU to mine and not the server's. Otherwise I might leave the page open and wonder why the hell my computer is being completely unresponsive.

Yeah, that and some kind of "intensity" slider have been suggested. I'll probably do both, despite my attempt to keep it zero-config. Hopefully I'll get it in one of the upcoming versions! Thanks for the detailed data! I wish I could get everyone up there. P The balance updates are running a bit behind right now.

It's being hugged a bit too tight, as the ol' reddit saying goes. Still not enough to pay for the electricity, but hey, it's a neat little miner that will grow! Not enough to pay the electricity right now. If we as a community persevere and make doge survive its infancy, what we mine now might very well pay the electricity at a later date: This is indeed true. When I started mining btc so long back I really considered not doing it anymore because I was like "This will never take off..

And now I still feel like it was a waste because I left the flash drive with my wallet on it in a Ramada Inn in Santa Barbara. Can you put average time per Doge on there? Something to indicate how many Doge you'd get by hash rate would be neat. I'll have to actually figure out the timing before I can do that, but I'll try to do so in a future update!

If the code for this is open source I would love to make another one for more people to enjoy! Let me know OP. It's not open source yet, sorry. At some point I probably will post it to GitHub, but right now it's still a bit messy.

That is so infuriating when people say that. That's like scientists who won't publish their negative results.

It's like how awkward everyone was about giving three cent tips before Dogecoin. There was nothing wrong with it, and there were people jumping up and down begging for three cents, but people were just embarrassed for no good reason.

Someday the ice will be broken on this code sharing thing too and everyone will start sharing their code from day one and our whole world will start working a thousand times better. The other part of the messiness is that in the heat of development and trying different things, I didn't always move things to config files right away, so all of my credentials are in the project as well, or at least in the history.

And I'd rather not put all that up on GitHub! I think the big difference in tipping is that with Dogecoin, you're getting doges which I thank you for , whereas with Bitcoins you're getting 0. Getting multiple things is more fulfilling than a tiny portion of a thing. Imagine if reddit had a watered down version of this running on the front page, mining directly into their wallet Thats actually really scary. Websites could steal your mining power just by you visiting them.

I imagine a hacker could inject this sort of script into a hacked page, and runs away with the doges or whatever coins before it's discovered.

Particularly if it's a high-profile page with a lot of visitors. It might still be able to be used in that way, but it needs to be optimized a lot more before that would be practical.

How can I be sure it won't destroy my laptop? It CPU mines, not gpu, so that answers your first and second questions For mining on your ps I would assume not due to not being x86 architecture, but even if it did, it would probably work better on your laptop.

It should work, since this is using javascript a scripting language running in an interpreter - so architecture shouldn't matter , as long as the browser supports javascript it should be fine. Your phone should work as well. If there's a way to, set your PS3's browser to request the desktop version of the site.

I don't know, I don't have a PS3. I think this is nothing short of revolutionary. This could be a viable way for free websites to generate revenue is that a good thing, though??? Apparently other people also think about using this to generate site revenue, instead of pushing ads. That's actually what I originally wanted to do; in it's form at the time though, it was even slower, so there was no chance it would be practical. Maybe one day though!

If it's a good thing or not, that's a whole other conversation It's in the plans, but I don't even know if it's possible yet. I certainly hope it is! Perhaps after it's undergone more optimization it will be possible.

But since I don't have a way to test either, I would rather not crash people's browsers. You're correct that it's CPU mining.

Now I understand, the computations are being done with the javascript. Because this is quite inefficient OP could write a java applet if he wanted greater speeds - its more about the concept and getting dogecoin some attention.

It's setup to not run on mobile devices. Apparently some people want it to and some people have tricked it into running anyway, but I couldn't get it to work on the ones I tried, so I disabled it.

Albeit I have a really cheap and pretty old Android phone and a 1st Gen iPad. I'm worried about it causing battery and heat problems on mobiles though, especially with how inefficient it is right now. But it may make it into future version by popular demand.

Firefox has the ASM. JS which basically compiles specially-marked-up JavaScript into code that runs at half the speeds of native or better. My C is very rusty. Chrome too does implement asm. Also, you can handwrite asm. It's basically a small subset of JS with type annotations. While there is no way a JS miner could compete with cpuminer much less gpu miner , this is a very fun project indeed. Kudos for thinking outside the box! I've been wanting to mine pretty much since the beginning but my laptop wouldn't let me.

Thanks for making it so easy! The amount of dogecoin tipped in this thread alone would take me several months to mine with this. Have you thought about implementing it in Java instead of an autostart js? Much like bitminter there's a few implementations out there of java miners you could do it that way for such more doges! I got up to on my Macbook Pro before I shut it off. Mining on a laptop will kill the poor thing How does this mine faster than my Desktop Miner?!!!!! Woops, seeing this is Hashes Per Second, not Kilohashes per second ;.
