You don't need to sync. You can just dump your private keys from core without syncing, and then sweep then in electrum. I didn't think it applied to me as I thought I still needed to sync the whole BC first before exporting the private keys.

However, one final piece: I see that the address is auto generated in red, I deleted it the first time by mistake when I open the Sweep dialog. Got that figured out. However, my 4th key gave me a "No inputs found" error. However, because the BC hasn't confirmed that transaction, I'm guessing that key is now "locked" until the transaction is confirmed. So, I think I successfully shot myself in the foot and have now committed to having re-sync the entire BC in order to get the rest of my coins.
