Sometimes delay can be very overpowering but this way it sounds so good because its just the right amount. Anyhow the Mesa guy and me got to be friends and later he told me that the band by then absolutely huge had used JCs and a Pro-Co Rat to record their latest multi-platinum record. That being said the roland sounds nice with roland Distortion Pedal, so one may 120bitcoin worth investing into. You'll receive email and Feed alerts when new items arrive. Heavy as all get out, but the casters help. The distortion on this amp is very good for old skool blues stuff like albert king, just plain early blues stuff that breaks up just right! Amounts shown in italicized text are for items listed in currency other than U. I wasn't crazy about the distortion until I learned how to use it for that perfect jazzy sound, then fell in love! Overall this is a great amp. I sold it due to not needing the VERY high volume it could create at home practicing, never had to go to even.

Roland JC-40 Combo Amp Review by Sweetwater

At some point I would love to upgrade to a Soldano SLO for my dirty tone, but I would keep this puppy in my rotation for its gorgeous clean tone! I got mine for three bills. Overall this is a great amp. Don't count on the distortion though, it is less than desirable; however, with this amp all your distortion pedals and effect pedals will sound great! It's loud, has great effects, and sound beatuiful and clear!

I highly recomend this product The effects on this amp are amazing! The chorus sounds much better than any chorus pedal I've ever encountered.

The ony reason I do not give it a 10 is because the distortion is less than perfect! However, any distortion pedal will sound beautiful through this clean and clear amplifier Built strong! Casters are a great feature as well. Since it's a solid state amp with minimal onboard effects, you know most of the money went towards creating a great amp with a great tone! In order to get anywhere close to the sound of this amp I feel one would have to purchase an expensive tube amp.

I've had mine for 20 years. Once you turn it on, you can't turn it off. Think spatial, room-filling, impossible chorus. Some dudes will diss the distortion. It's not the distortion they're used to. It's subtle, tasty, and not contingent on the overall volume, as with a tube amp. Second-best reverb to a Fender Twin. Takes any and all pedals, yet maintains YOUR playing style and ability. This amp shines in the hands of a clean player. I never had this thing past 3 for a gig.

Put it to 6, and you can play the Astrodome. And it still sounds whistle-clean. You'll find one of these on a stage at almost every major act. Somebody is playing thru one. It's a Legend for a reason. That reason is simply sound. I have owned a JC for about four years now and it is still the best sounding clean amp ever.

I used this extensively in a Jazz Ensemble and received many compliments from judges on my tone. I used to have a Line6 Flextone II XL, but I found I wasn't really using all of the built-in effects, and the clean sounds just lacked the inherently sweet tone that you get with the JC.

To anyone who wants an amazing clean sound from your guitar: I highly recommend this amp. However, if you're thinking of using the "distortion" to get lots of modern rock distortion, forget about it. Also, volume-wise, I don't think I've ever seriously played this thing above a volume setting of , it is amazingly loud. Extremely wonderful clean tone as well as the quality of the chorus with lots of power to back it up.

Only complaint, no external speaker output: I decided to try it out for a gig next door. I was very pleased with the outcome.

I only had a few minutes tweak it before the show. I didn't try the distortion. I had my RAT pedal for that. I also tried my new MXR carbon copy delay awesome, by the way! The gave me tons of headroom and great note articulation as well. I received a lot of nice compliments on my tone. I have always played with various tube amps over the last 29 years, but this amp is changing my thinking. Plus they are super reliable, durable, and you can get great tone without having to "turn it to 11". I own one looking at it right now, and I must say, this is the last amp I will ever buy.

I'm never buying anything else. I have 2 different setups: I use the left channel of the amp for my wireless mic or Taylor acoustic. The chorus is unprecedented. You can't beat it. When you hear the chorus from this amp for the first time, you suddenly realize that all those chorus pedals aren't even really producing an actual "chorus" or chorus sound, and then you think, "Why didn't I know about this!? But seriously, who really uses dist. No, they do what most smart people do: This amp is loud.

You play in your neighborhood with even just a tiny bit of volume, and there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth If you're going to spend this or or more for an amp, please do yourself a favor: The only solid-state amp that stands alongside the tone of a great tube amp. Excellent foundation for your rig. I've owned many amps over the years.. Many tube purists have dismissed this amp without really exploring its possibilities, and it is their loss.

I also play a lot with my fingers instead of a pick, and the super-cleanliness of the JC allows every singe nuance to shine through. If you want the actual sound of your guitar, your playing dynamics, and your effects pedals to shine through without being overly colored, this is the amp for you.

And the chorus effect is just gorgeous. Instead of just taking the signal and swirling it in on itself like an effects pedal, the JC's two speakers are wired with the chorus in stereo for a truly spatial chorus that actually moves. Granted -- not everybody digs that sound, but if you do, this is your amp. I've tried other amps that were deemed hipper, but I keep coming back to this one. So I was turned on to this amp because my favorite guitarist Jade Puget of AFI once used it before switching to vox ac30s.

If you have ever heard AFI you know that his tone is amazing live and in-studio. Anyways, so I went down to a local music store that happened to have one so I had to give it a shot. Roland engineers did there homework well and its no wonder this amp has become an industry standard like the SM The distortion on this amp is very good for old skool blues stuff like albert king, just plain early blues stuff that breaks up just right!

And again the Roland engineers know was up! I've played alot of tube amps that have been made and nothing compares to that tube sound weather its clean or distortion its two thumbs up. But the downside to tube amps is high maintenance and weight issues! If you play jazz, funk, blues, twang rock! Under a very skilled player this amp will turn alot of heads and its been doin it since As I expected from Japan!

I you own an older one made from the 80's and its in great shape! I originaly called roland in anaheim california for some parts for a Roland JC that was made in made in the U. A and they were very helpful. This is the reason why I bought my new JC cause I was fixing this old amp for a church and it sounded great! I've known about how good the JC sounded for a long time and also heard it, but I too much of a tube amp snob! Anyways it just needed some new input jacks cause it was intermittant at times, and needed to touch up some few broken solder cause it had been badly abused by whoever owned it before.

There are few solid state amps out there that are worth playin around with, but this amp is worth owning for life This is not a modeling amp! Thanx Zzound for the 4payment plan this amp will be paid off very soon! It still sounds great with 30 year old speakers. I usually play it around 2 to 3 and it is quite loud. The chorus is great. This is what sold me on it. The distortion isn't so good, so I use a Proco Rat.

Its 20 years old and is still going strong too. I would recommend this amp to anyone who wants to start off with a super amp that will last a lifetime. Turn it on and turn the knobs where you want them. All sound perfect with this amp. I also recently added a Carvin speaker cabinet for some added thump. I bought my JC 30 years ago and have never had any problems with it whatsoever. Not even a fuse.

Well worth the money I spent. I have never needed any support. Never had anything go wrong with this amp whatsoever. Its a good looking amp. I will always keep this amp. Pig Hog Instrument Cable. People who bought this item also bought. It did all of them justice, the sweetest being the acoustic or the Ibanez, neck pick-up, tones set for jazz. I wasn't crazy about the distortion until I learned how to use it for that perfect jazzy sound, then fell in love! The chorus was great, balanced, easy to control.

I sold it due to not needing the VERY high volume it could create at home practicing, never had to go to even. Cranked up, it sounded great for gigs, mic'ed for larger venues. I would buy this one again, first choice, if I had the need for it again. I can't believe all the bad stuff are saying about this amp. It does have a little hum, but that is an easy fix. Put a Boss RT on it and welcome to leslie land!!

I have never owned a Roland product that has disappointed me. Not for playing in your rocking chair. I've been playing on the amp in Jazz Class for about three weeks now. After that period of time, I feel I can acrruately review it. This amp is great. The clean sounds really great and is great for jazz.

But the plus side is its versitility. Not only can it play jazz, but the gain on it sounds great as well. Overall, this amp plays great not only for jazz, but for metal and pretty much any genre. At the volumes that this amplifier puts out, I feel it's a great buy. I came to the store with no idea what kind of amp I wanted and came out with this beautiful machine. The JC is renowned for its god-like clean tone, but often takes criticism for having a weak Distortion tone.

This latter fact is true, but for anyone who's heard this amp's brilliant clean sound it should more than make up for it. That being said the amp sounds nice with a Distortion Pedal, so one may be worth investing into. The Amp's Chorus effect is about as good as it gets, but unfortunately my particular amp's reverb effect was completely fried.

This was fixed with the purchase of a Boss RV-2 off Ebay but it still left me a little ticked. Overall a good amp and worth it if you are getting into recording. Without a doubt, the JC is as clean as clean can be. It's no wonder the JC has been the pro's choice on countless recordings. Chorus feature is awesome, as is the vibrato. Heavy as all get out, but the casters help. Distortion feature OK, but I never use it.

If you're serious about owning an amp that will produce a true, clean sound, regardless of the axe you're using, the JC is the ONE! I have been playing for about 15 years and owned everything from fender to gibson. I've had several tube amps and currently have a marshall dsl40c. You can get to any sound imaginable with this amp and that multi effect unit.

You may experience some noise and feedback but just stick a quality noise gate in there and good to go for the bedroom, studio or stage.

The JC is a staple in the recording studio, in clubs, on stage with the jazz band or orchestra, even during worship at church! It is almost impossible to watch a television show with a house band and not see at least one JC on stage.

Notabley, this amp seems to make its way into every "Amp Simulator" product known to man kind- and for good reason! The amp is primarily famous for it's rich, powerful chorus and vibrato. The sound is so recognizable that friends who plug in an electric guitar and fire it up for the first time, always have the same reaction I should add that Bass and keys sounds awesome through this thing as well! I use this amp during my weekly practices at church, for about a year now.

The guy who owns it has had it for ten years, and it is in excellent condition!! It can be very soft, but if you turn it up it plays over the house amps.
